In 2008, the project team took part in the psychological aid of Wenchuan earthquake and was one of the professional teams which entered the earthquake-afflicted area the earliest and worked there the longest with seven workstations established in places such as Wenchuan, Beichuan, Hanwang, Deyang, Dujiangyan and so on. In 2010, the team again took part in the psychological aid of Yushu earthquake, established three workstations in Yushu orphanage school, Yushu Lawuga Primary School and Yushu Huwaika village, and then provided psychological aid there for several years. To date, there are over 80 workstations of Garden of the Heart & Soul nationwide, mainly in children's welfare homes, serving the suffered and the orphans with the psychological techniques of Psychology of the Heart and Analytical Psychology and Chinese culture. In 2020, the new coronavirus wreaks havoc on China and spreads to the world. The team again organizes volunteers to work on the Wechat platform "Garden of the Heart & Soul 2020 Psychological Aid", continuing to provide professional psychological aid to those who need it. We have always believed that academic research should not only be a research, but also be a practice and a kind of responsibility. We wish that we could put what we learned into use, try our best to help the suffered and the orphans to develop psychologically and let them nourish their mind in the Garden of Heart & Soul. Originally it is called Guangdong Research Center for Analytical Psychology, founded in 1998 during the first session of International Forum of Analytical Psychology and Chinese Culture with Professor Shen Heyong as the founding president. Oriential Academy for Analytical Psychology devotes itself in developing Analytical Psychology and Psychology of the Heart, both of which are based on the Chinese culture, and try to integrate Chinese culture with international development of psychology to achieve a kind of integrated development of academy, public welfare and social practice. In recent years, Oriential Academy for Analytical Psychology cooperate with Psyland Culture by introducing more resources to support the development of Garden of Heart & Soul. Research centers(institute or department) of Analytical Psychology in South China Normal University, Fudan University, and Macau University are also involved in the construction of Garden of the Heart & Soul. Chinese developing organizations of both IAAP and ISST, CSAP, CSST and CFAP also all engage and support the Garden of Heart & Soul public welfare project. Oriential Academy for Analytical Psychology has a good reputation of Chinese Jungian Institute, being called the cradle of Chinese analysts of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay therapists and it is the developing base for Psychology of the Heart. Oriential Academy for Analytical Psychology has cooperated with South China Normal University, Fudan University, Macau University, Shandong University, Macau City University and Changan University, hosting eight sessions of International Forum of Analytical Psychology and Chinese Culture(1998-2018)which assert great academic influence among the world, initiate and promote the development of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay Therapy in China. The center has been involved in training hundreds of masters, doctors and post doctors and visiting scholars from home and abroad in the area of Analytical Psychology among which emerged dozens of Chinese analysts of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay therapists with internationally recognized credentials. The center thus leads and promotes the research of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay Therapy and the development of family and children and propels Psychology of the Heart to gain an international development and influence. II、Original Intention of Garden of the Heart & Soul Shen Heyong and Gao Lan are founders of Guangdong Research Institute/Center for Psychology of the Heart, as well as sponsors of Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project. They are both professors of psychology, the country's first batch of internationally qualified psychoanalysts and sandplay therapists. While setting up research center and promoting the development of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay therapy in China, they also want to do what they can for Chinese orphans with their own academic and professional skills. Therefore, after adequate preparation, in March 2007, the first workstation of Garden of the Heart & Soul was officially established in Guangzhou social (children's) welfare home, and the Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project was launched. Shen Heyong and Gao Lan have self-raised money to fund the construction and development of more than 80 workstations nationwide since 2007. Former President of South China Normal University Yan ZeXian, Macau Workers' Children School principal Tang Zhijian, member of Guangdong province standing committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Xu Feng, founder of Trend Science and Technology Chang Mingzheng, Chairman of Chinese Federation of Analytical Psychology Liu Yunyu, the Nightingale Award winner Luo Shaoxia, Shao Chaoyang of Macau University, Yin Li of Sichuan University, Fan Hong-xia of Shaanxi University, etc., are among the first batch of participates and supporters of Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project. Master's and doctoral students and visiting scholars majoring in Analytical Psychology and Sandplay Therapy became the initial volunteers of Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project; and the "2+3" course students of the Oriential Academy for Analytical Psychology are the main force of volunteers for Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project. From the initiators to group after group of volunteers who have devoted themselves to the cause, all have kept to the plainest original intentions: to be professional, honest, sincere and compassionate, and to do what we can; Explore, pursue, stick to, and build a " Garden of the Heart & Soul " together. III、Vision of Garden of the Heart & Soul The public welfare project of Garden of the Heart & Soul and its volunteers will provide psychological assistance and psychological services to the best of our ability for orphans and disabled children in welfare homes and disaster victims with Analytical Psychology, Chinese culture, Psychology of the Heart, and professional academic strength, so as to help their psychological development and build our Garden of the Heart & Soul together. Analytical Psychology, Chinese culture, as well as Psychology of the Heart, can not only be applied at the individual clinical level, playing the basic role of psychological counselling; Moreover, it can help one's psychological development and creation, improve their psychological health and give play to its significance in psychological education. At the same time, it can help people obtain the experience of individuation and the feeling of the unity of nature and man at the level of self-knowledge and understanding of the meaning of life. Psychology of the Heart, Analytical Psychology and Chinese culture are dedicated to the practice of the true meaning of our nature of mind, and to exploring and presenting what the mind can achieve. Within each of us, there should be such a garden; When we are tired, it is our heart's harbour; when we are calm, it brings us spiritual nourishment; it can bring not only healing but also psychological growth, and enable us to be healed and transformed. IV、Management Team of Garden of the Heart & Soul 1. CEO of the project： Gao Lan Professor of psychology She had tenures in South China Normal University and Macau City University as doctoral supervisor. She is a specially-invited expert of UNICEF, chairman of Chinese Federation of Analytical Psychology, founding member of International Association for Expressive Sandplay(IAES), analyst of International Association for Analytical Psychology(IAAP), therapist of International Society of Sandplay Therapy (ISST), chief expert of Qingzi Children's psychology school. 3. Executive assistance of the project The specific affairs in Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project have been executed by Chen Wenqi with support of the persons in charge in workstations nationwide. The project is affiliated to Psyland Culture and Oriential Academy for Analytical Psychology V、Working Model of Garden of the Heart & Soul The working model of psychological aid and service of Garden of the Heart & Soul mainly includes: five levels of fan theory, three stages and five elements techniques, and six steps of healing and transformation. * Five levels of fan theory means that there are five levels involved in the work of psychological assistance: 1. individual counseling; 2. Small group psychological counseling; 3. Large group psychological interaction; 4. Communication through film or on Internet platform; 5. Design of psychological environment in everyday life, to integrate psychological assistance into the life of our clients. In this way, a basic work team of volunteers of Garden of the Heart & Soul can perform the needed psychological assistance more effectively at different levels. * Three stages and five elements techniques refers to the three main stages in the process of psychological assistance in Garden of the Heart & Soul, and the corresponding professional techniques in each stage. 1. The first is to build effective relationships. To this end, we have identified the basic content such as "free and protected space", sense of security and trust in order to establish effective relationships through "containing", "empathizing", "holding", "love and compassion", as well as corresponding resonance. 2. The second is symbolic allegorical expression. Through active listening (listening with heart), image embodiment and dream work, expressive art (music and painting), sandplay and archetypal psychodrama, we provide our clients with in-depth and systematic psychological counseling, pay attention to protection and company, and pay attention to the initiative of the clients. The real healing factor and the real healing power, in our view, lies deep within the clients. 3. Finally, Garden of the Heart & Soul and the psychological reconstruction. Based on the core wisdom, core education, and core psychology of Chinese culture, we integrate the archetypes of Chinese culture into the psychological reconstruction of Garden of the Heart & Soul, such as the naming and initiation of Yu the great, the nurturing and taming of Shennong, and the timing and transformation of Fu Hsi. In Garden of the Heart & Soul, one can find the boat of the heart, so as to be healed and transformed, to know oneself and become oneself. * The six steps of healing and transformation are based on Analytical Psychology and Chinese culture, as well as the professional practice of the methodology of Psychology of the Heart. Taking the Chinese cultural archetypes as a clue, we obtain inspiration from the archetypal image of Yu the great who controls the flood, and extract the psychoanalytical methods of Naming and Initiation. From Shennong's archetypal image of farming, animal husbandry and medicine, we are inspired to extract Nurturing and Taming; And inspired by the archetypal image of the eight diagrams created by Fu Hsi, the psychoanalytical methods and techniques of "Timing" and "Transformation" are extracted. International Association for Analytical Psychology(IAAP), International Society for Sandplay Therapy (ISST), International Association of Expressive Sandplay Work (IAS W), International Society for Embodied Image (ISEI), International Society for Mythological Psychodrama (ISMD), as well as the International Association for Expressive Art Therapy (IAEAT), etc., all give affirmation and support to the psychological aid model of Garden of the Heart & Soul. And this model has also been used in disaster and collective trauma work in South Africa, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Nepal. Internationally-known professional journals such as Journal of Analytical Psychology, Psyche and Culture, Psychological Exploration, Sandplay Therapy and so on, have published papers on the psychological aid model of Garden of the Heart & Soul, and relevant academic papers have been published at international important academic conferences held by IAAP and ISST. VI、Development History of Garden of the Heart & Soul In 2007, the first Garden of the Heart & Soul workstation was officially established in Guangzhou social (children's) welfare home, which is the first workstation based on Analytical Psychology and Sandplay Therapy in welfare institutions affiliated to the civil affairs system in China. For 10 years in a row, Guangzhou social (children's) welfare home workstation has been awarded "outstanding volunteer team". In 2008, when an 8 magnitude earthquake wrecked Wenchuan, Garden of the Heart & Soul project was the first professional team into the earthquake zone, and kept on working there for the longest time. It has established workstations one by one in the Eastern Turbine in Hanwang, Beichuan Middle School, Watermill Elementary School and Yingxiu Primary School in Wenchuan, Deyang South Shore and Tianyuan temporary shelters, Eastern Turbine middle school and elementary school, and Chengdu SOS Orphans Village. As Shen Heyong says: "true psychoanalysis is to be done in life; The meaning of true psychoanalysis must also be realized in life." Garden of the Heart & Soul volunteer team has also been recognized as the most professional psychological aid team which has the best volunteer spirit. The then chairman of International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) , Hester Solomon, praised Garden of the Heart & Soul volunteer team: "their contribution is unusual. Perhaps this is the first time in the history that IAAP members were directly involved in the rescue work. We are proud to have such wonderful colleagues and have deep respect and admiration for their outstanding work." Major domestic media, including newspapers such as People's Daily, the People's Liberation Army Daily, China youth daily, Wenhui newspaper, the Liberation daily, Southern daily, Xinmin evening news, Southern weekend and Southern metropolis daily, China education news, and Beijing review; TV stations such as the central TV, dragon TV, Sichuan TV, China education channels, China report international online (CRI), and network media such as Xinhua net, China Internet Information Center, PhoenixNet, People's Daily online, Tencent, Sina, Netease, Baidu, Sohu, CN in the 21st century and so on, all reported the psychological aid and reconstruction work and events of Garden of the Heart & Soul. Shen heyong wrote the book of "Actions and Reflections in Three Chuans: Garden of the Heart & Soul Chronicle in Wenchuan Earthquake ", which is an important work on the Wenchuan earthquake's psychological relief, and has important influence at home and abroad. In 2010, there was a big earthquake happened in Yushu. Shen heyong and Gao LAN led the Garden of the Heart & Soul volunteer team to participate in the psychological rescue on the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau of Yushu. They set up four workstations in Yushu orphans school, Lawuga primary school in Yushu Shangbatang, Yushu Huwaika village, and Xining Orphanage. Yushu earthquake relief commander Ma, vice governor of Qinghai province, received the volunteers; and the main person in charge of the earthquake relief headquarter met with the Garden of the Heart & Soul volunteers for many times to solicit professional advice for psychological assistance and psychological reconstruction after Yushu earthquake, and gave Yushu Garden of the Heart & Soul strong support. The psychological assistance of Garden of the Heart & Soul volunteer team in Yushu also received los zhuo nima rinpoche, and many other living Buddhas' support. The team established a deep friendship with Tibetan friends, and accepted the baptism of the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau which is the source of three rivers. This experience enriches the basis of the Analytical Psychology, expands the model of Garden of the Heart & Soul, and promotes the development of Analytical Psychology and Chinese culture. In "Psyland Weibo", there is a series of reports on the psychological rescue of the Garden of the Heart & Soul after Yushu earthquake: "Yushu in the wind: Garden of the Heart & Soul on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau". Garden of the Heart & Soul 2020, Garden of the Heart & Soul under the outbreak of "new coronavirus". From 2019 to 2020, from Otsugase to Gengzy, the "new coronavirus" suddenly started from Wuhan, wrecked havoc on the Divine land of China, and then spread to all over the world. In the face of disaster, we need wisdom and courage, compassion and feelings, and we need Garden of the Heart & Soul. Garden of the Heart & Soul 2020 special volunteer action was launched on January 26, 2020, organizing professional psychological counselors and therapists from Oriential Academy for Analytical Psychology, Psyland Culture, Analytical Psychology research society of Guangdong province, Macau city university psychoanalytic institute, " Chinese society of analytical psychology" (CSAP), "Chinese society of Sandplay therapy" (CSST), and masters and doctors of Analytical Psychology program of more than 300 people, to join the psychological aid, for medical staff in frontline, patients and their families, etc., to provide professional psychological counseling. At the end of "Thoughts on Qingming Festival" in the book "Actions and Reflections in Three Chuans: Garden of the Heart & Soul Chronicle in Wenchuan Earthquake", the author says: "we are volunteers. If our country needs us, we will work together to save the country in crisis without hesitation and complaints; if our country needs us again, we will go on as usual; Follow the call of fate, pursue the meaning of life..." So, now, in the face of the new coronavirus, in the face of collective trauma, we volunteers of Garden of the Heart & Soul are joining the fight. VII、Gain and Development of Garden of the Heart & Soul From 2007 to 2019, more than 80 Garden of the Heart & Soul workstations, mainly in children's welfare homes nationwide, have been set up with more than 1,000 volunteers. Among the volunteers there are more than 100 doctoral and master's degree students (and postdoctoral and visiting scholars)of Analytical Psychology, and hundreds of students from the "2 + 3" course of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay Therapy in Oriential Academy for Analytical Psychology. In 12 years of work, Garden of the Heart & Soul workstations all over the country also won the honors and rewards accordingly. For example, Garden of the Heart & Soul workstation of Guangzhou children's welfare home has been awarded "outstanding volunteer team" for 10 consecutive years. Xi 'an Garden of the Heart & Soul workstation of children's welfare home has been awarded "excellent volunteer team" for 6 consecutive years. Yinchuan Muslim orphanage Garden of the Heart & Soul has won the national and provincial outstanding volunteer awards for many times; Xinxiang city welfare home Garden of the Heart & Soul was awarded "star of voluntary service of civilization emissary" by Henan civilization office. Suzhou Garden of the Heart & Soul workstation won the medal of "love star"; Shijiazhuang Garden of the Heart & Soul has been awarded the title of "excellent volunteer activities in Hebei province" for several years. Changsha Garden of the Heart & Soul was awarded "excellent volunteer unit"; Hohhot Garden of the Heart & Soul was awarded "excellent volunteer service organization"; In 2014, the Garden of the Heart & Soul -- the psychological counseling program for orphanage students was selected as one of the "top 100 projects" in the third China public welfare and charity project competition. In 2014, the Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project won the silver award in the first China youth volunteer service project competition organized by the Chinese Volunteers Association of the Central Civil Affairs Department of the Communist Youth League. In 2014, the Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project -- psychological trauma rehabilitation assistance program for "law orphans" was rated as excellent volunteer service project of Henan province; In 2014, the Garden of the Heart & Soul public welfare project -- "law orphans" psychological trauma rehabilitation assistance program won the silver award in the first China youth volunteer service project competition. Hester Solomon, President of the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP), wrote a long letter to all IAAP members in recognition and support of Garden of the Heart & Soul volunteer team. At the 18th IAAP congress (Montreal, Canada) in 2010, more than 1,000 IAAP members applauded to the Chinese Garden of the Heart & Soul volunteers such as Shen Heyong, Gao LAN and so on. As volunteers of Garden of the Heart & Soul, we learn and enrich from the work of psychological service. The dedication of the volunteers in Garden of the Heart & Soul comes from a deep concern and compassion for life in human nature.
